The summer holidays don’t just herald the beginning of long, hot, lazy days (we hope) but also the challenge of keeping the kids entertained for weeks on end.
Fortunately, if you’re thinking of visiting Merseyside this isn’t a problem as there are plenty of things to do for all ages and right on our doorstep too.
So if you’re staying with us at The Park Hotel, situated on the outskirts of Liverpool, here are just some things to do for both young and old which are sure to provide plenty of memories for years to come.
1. Knowsley Safari Park
For something a little wilder then Knowsley Safari Park, which is just a short drive from The Park Hotel, is always a great day out. Pack the family into the car and get up close and personal with the lions, giraffes and rhinos before paying a visit to the Oasis restaurant which offers a fantastic range of sandwiches, fresh salads and homemade dishes.
2. Farmer Ted’s
Farmer Ted’s is an interactive children’s activity park on a working farm between Formby and Ormskirk on Flatmans Lane and just a stone’s throw from our hotel. Activities include pony grooming, Guinea Pig Village, ferret racing, chick handling, the Reptile House, outdoor and indoor adventure play area including huge climbing frames and a massive indoor soft play frame.
3. Dunes Splash World
Just up the coast from us is Southport which is home to Splash World indoor water park which features fantastic flumes and river rides, a relaxing bubble spa and a recently refurbished toddler area including tipping buckets and fountains. If you’ve still got any energy left why not take a walk along the promenade to get some fish and chips or an ice cream to satisfy the appetite you’ve just worked up?
4. Rice Lane City Farm
In nearby Aintree is the fabulous Rice Lane City Farm which offers a little peace and tranquillity from the hustle and bustle of Liverpool. Spread across 24 acres there’s plenty to see including rare breed animals to the recently refurbished chapel and tranquil cemetery – an oasis of calm just a short distance from the city.
5. Southport Pleasure Land
Again up the road in Southport is Pleasure Land, one of the area’s favourite family attractions. Along with fun rides you can also enjoy performances by resident actors and magician, a family amusement arcade, a new coffee area, fun and games on the stalls, gift shop and food and drink outlets. What’s more, entrance to the park is free, you just pay for a Fun Card – an e-card token system – which you can top up with tokens which costs £1.
6. Formby National Trust
For a fun day out in the great outdoors and just a short drive from The Park Hotel, look no further than the National Trust Formby. You can discover beautiful red squirrels and natterjacks that are scattered across the miles of coastal walks where you can also take a bike ride or simply walk for miles whilst enjoying the stunning sea views which stretch as far as the eye can see.
